Quick Chiropractic Facts
- Chiropractic was discovered in 1895 in Davenport Iowa. The first chiropractor was D.D. Palmer. Chiropractic has been helping people get out of pain and stay out of pain for over 100 years.
- The cornerstone of chiropractic is the correction of the subluxation. A chiropractic subluxation is a condition where a bone is misaligned [typically a vertebrae—spinal bone] and causes nerve interference. Chiropractors are trained to identify and correct this condition.
- Nerve interference is often the cause of pain in the body. It can be the underlying cause of muscle spasm, joint pain and even organ dysfunction. That’s because the same nerves that exit the spinal column send instructions to both the muscles and the organs. Click to see nerve chart.
- Chiropractic has been the court of last resort for millions of people for over 100 years. That means, they have tried everything else they could think of to get rid of their neck pain, back pain , headaches, migraines or sciatica before they sought the help of a chiropractor. Because of the length of time that has elapsed the body has established an ingrained pattern that continues to cause pain. Patterns are like bad habits, they take time to reverse.
- Some people have been told by well meaning, but misinformed, friends, “Once you go to chiropractor, you have to keep going.” Here’s the real story. The goal is to get you out of pain. To do that a new healthy pattern has to be established in the body—one that is free of misalignments that cause nerve pressure and muscle spasms. Therefore the body needs to be retrained. When you retrain your teeth to create a more beautiful pattern [smile] braces are used. But braces don’t work on the spine, repetition does. So to get rid of the pain and keep it that way you need to be willing to see your chiropractor frequently but…and here’s the important part…only in the beginning. The first month of care is crucial.
